Batsheva Dance Company

Batsheva Dance Company was founded in Israel in 1964. Proventus has been a supporter since 1998. In 2014 the Robert Weil Family Foundation took the responsibility of this long-term partnership.

Batsheva Dance Company, is one of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the world, originally founded by Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild and Martha Graham in 1964. Ohad Naharin, took over as artistic director in 1990. Ohad is with his distinctive choreographic voice exploring the boundaries between art and performance. He is the originator of the innovative movement language, Gaga, which have revolutionized the company’s training, and emerged as a growing international force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers. In 2017, Gili Navot was appointed the Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company to succeed Ohad Naharin, effective September 2018. Gili Navot is a dancer, choreographer, and a teacher. Ohad is today House Choreographer of Batsheva.

Based in Tel Aviv, the company travels continually, performing all over the world, and has established a junior ensemble to promote a new generation of choreographers and dancers, but also to introduce children to dance. The company consists of 34 dancers from Israel and abroad. Batsheva maintains an extensive performance schedule locally and internationally with over 250 performances and over 75,000 spectators per year. It has become an institution with world class dancers and choreography – and at the same time a force for the experimental, or even more radical, development of new styles, choreographies and movements.
